The Six Golden Threads of Compass Leadership

How we Work

Systems Approach

We have designed a unique approach to looking at leadership from a system perspective using both synergetics and cybernetics to explore the black box of leadership! An important element of this is to navigate intelligent networks through processes and purpose.

All Inclusive

Leadership is not the sole property of an individual but that of a community. We look to include the ‘ship’ of leadership and to take account of leadership at different levels and within different contexts focusing on people and partnership working through networks.

Time is a currency of Leadership

One of the challenges for leaders is to avoid the temptation to lead in the short term when the opportunity and potential exists to seek a desired outcome which can only be achieved in the longer term. This requires leaders to take account of the prevailing paradigm and problem profile.

Innovation and Creativity

Innovation and creativity are central to our approach to collective leadership. We encourage transformation and entrepreneurial activities based on Aristotle’s classic notion of phronesis (practical wisdom) in creating improved public value as the ultimate outcome.

Global Perspectives

Globalisation has brought many benefits but many challenges within the political, economic, social, technical, legal & environmental (PESTLE) contexts and how these impact on places. Post the Covid-19 crisis, leaders are now being asked to consider reverse globalisation in support of national and local interests. How will your leaders respond to this dilemma?

Reflection & Reflexivity

Narrating our experiences and stories ensures that we focus on both what we think but also what we have lived through. This relies upon truthful reflection and critical reflexivity if we are to understand the consequences of our actions. We should consider both power (formal and informal) and our principles within the perspective of our actions.
